How to vote

DC’s NOVEMBER 3rd GENERAL ELECTION will be conducted mostly by mail.

Step 1: Register or update your voter information

Ahead of the November 3rd General Election, the DC Board of Elections will mail every registered DC voter a ballot at the address where you are last registered. To make sure you get your ballot, at your correct address, and on time, make sure you are registered or that your registration information is correct now.

All voter registration applications submitted online and by mail must be received by the Board no later than 21 days before the election. After the deadline, voters can also register in person at any voting center during the election period.

Step 2: Look for Your Ballot in the Mail

Official ballots will arrive via US Postal Service on a rolling basis.

Step 3: Vote!

Once you get your official ballot in the mail, fill it out to vote! Mail-in ballots must be postmarked by Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, 2020. Instructions on how to vote and return your ballot will be included. The ballot will also include an "I Voted" sticker and a prepaid envelope to send it back. Make sure to double-check you signed in all the right places and then put your sealed ballot in the mail.

Everyone who is able to vote by mail is strongly encouraged to do so for their own safety and the safety of poll workers. If you are unable to vote by mail, you can vote in person at one of 40 voting centers starting on October 19, 2020 through Election Day on November 3rd.
